1 of our first 2 Decathlon baby gym tracksuits to break the status quo with minimal waste design. A first modest step toward more responsible design.
This clever, responsibly designed tracksuit is soft and comfortable, with a regular cut, a crew-neck jacket, and pants that stay put at the ankles and waist.
What is minimal waste?
The aim is to reduce textile waste during product manufacturing, starting with the design stage. Products are designed and made using a pattern template and not solely based on a drawing.
This means that pattern-making is a key part of the design process. We make sure that the different pieces of the product fit together perfectly like a puzzle on the pattern template to generate minimal waste.
Why adopt a minimal waste design approach?
Between 15% and 20% of textiles used for clothing end up as fabric offcuts. Wasted textiles mean wasted natural resources. It is vital that we tackle the problem at the source by maximizing our use of textiles, by minimizing waste, and by generating as little fabric waste during the manufacturing process of the product as possible. For this product, we have gone down from 19% to 9% waste.
Product testing
When we design our products, we select fabrics and inks that are not harmful to kids, and accessories (buttons, drawstrings, rhinestones, etc.) that cannot be swallowed. We make sure our fabrics are not toxic if put in kids’ mouths. As well as these standards, we consider kids’ safety when designing every aspect of our products. These little details make all the difference!
Child development
We design our products with the support of a physiotherapist to understand how we can make kids more autonomous through our clothing. “The challenge is to prevent kids from becoming discouraged. You need to give them actions that they can see are possible so that they’ll repeat them until they become automatic and something they can use more generally,” explains Agathe, our partner physiotherapist
Helping kids achieve their aim of dressing themselves
How do we help them out? With easy-to-close zippers, a wide neck so they can get dressed on their own without being stuck in their sweater, visual markers so they get their clothing the right way around, and more! With this little helping hand, kids will gradually get to grips with dressing themselves like the big kids.
Baby gym
Part sport, part game, and part chance for little ones to explore the world!
Baby gym is the starting block for budding champions. It supports kids’ psychomotor development while they have maximum fun!
Kids aged 1 to 6 can take part in obstacle courses made up of special kid-friendly apparatuses.
The benefits of baby gym
Is your baby already playful and active? Did you know that this fun sport helps kids develop their motor skills? Through a range of activities and by discovering new sensations, little gymnasts will learn to balance, develop their motor skills and coordination, and learn all the things they’re capable of doing! It is an excellent way to help them learn self-confidence.
What to wear for baby gym
To be comfortable, kids can count on Domyos products: T-shirts, pants, leggings, and even a baby gym jacket! The aim is for them to be comfortable without having to pull their pants up or their T-shirt down all the time. The technical features vary depending on kids’ level.
